Finding My Way Books honor children with special needs or disabilities by sharing their stories.
July 15th-20th- Our two new Finding My World Series books from Toronto will be presented at the Toronto Summer Institute (TSI).
June 24-26 Jo will be attending the American Library Association annual convention exhibit hall in Chicago. She has meeting scheduled with other publishers and will spend time sharing Finding My Way Books. MyaGrace Wants To Get Ready/MyaGrace quierealistarse will be shown at the Independent Book Publisher Association vendor booth and included in their convention catalog.
December 10, 2016 from 1:00-4:00pm Mary and Vera will be at the 'Great Writers, Right Here' author event at the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library. All our books will be for sale at a discounted price.
September 10, 2016: Vera will be presenting a session featuring ‘Marco and I Want To Play Ball’ at the Kansas Book Festival.
July 9-14, 2016:Jo traveled to Toronto to participate in the Toronto Summer Institute (TSI). TSI is an annual event limited to 150 participants from all over the world who are interested in promoting inclusion. Jo and Cathie Best presented a session on promoting inclusion and the development of skills needed for self-determination in young children. Individuals in their session took turns reading books published by Finding My Way Books.
May 28-June 16, 2016:Mary traveled to Tanzania with a Special Education group from Kansas State University. As part of a grant, Mary was asked to take photos so that Finding My Way Books could publish two picture books supporting inclusion of children with disabilities in Tanzania. Also, the schools Mary visited asked Finding My Way Books to create a set of concept books with photographs from their schools and country.
June, 2016: Finding My Way Books is sponsoring the Kansas Pediatric Foundation 'Turn A Page, Touch A Mind' spotlight event called "Ready To Read." All 83 clinical sites in Kansas will receive five books from Finding My Way Books, a poster and coloring sheets that can be used to promote school readiness through reading daily.
June 20, 2016: Jo will be one of 15 local authors to participate in the 21st Summer Institute for School Librarians event at the Topeka/Shawnee Public Library. School librarians will be learning about the draft of the PK-12 School Library Media and Technology Standards in the morning and in the afternoon visit with authors.
May-June 2016: Finding My Way Books has been asked by faculty in the Special Education department at Kansas State University to create books highlighting children with special needs in Tanzania. Our photographer, Mary, will be traveling to Tanzania the end of May to spend three weeks visiting schools with the Kansas State University Special Education group. Teachers in the Tanzania schools have requested we create some concept books for them. We are excited for this wonderful opportunity to support this community.
May 3, 2016: Silver Lake Public Library is hosting a special Children's Book Week event. 100 1st graders are invited to meet staff and animals from the Topeka Zoo. Our book, 'Kaitlyn Wants To See Ducks' which was photographed at the Topeka zoo will be featured. Jo will be there to talk about the book and pass our bookmarks to all the students for an extra fun morning.

May 2-8 2016: Finding My Way Books is proud to participate in the Children's Book Council Annual Children's Book Week for the first time this year. We have two Kansas libraries that requested to join us in this celebration, May 2-8. Silver Lake Public Library and Nortonville Public Library are both planning events during Children's Book Week to recognize our books. We'll be sharing details of these plans as they are finalized.
March 5, 2016: We will be exhibiting at the Kansas Child Care Training Opportunities (KCCTO) Mad Hatter Early Childhood Conference March 5th in Manhattan, Kansas. This event is training for early childhood professionals interested in promoting literacy. This year's focus is how stories can be shared in a way to match and support children's different ways of learning. We are excited to be part of this event.
January 25, 2016: Mary and Vera will be presenting on inclusion and the development of skills needed for self-determination to a combined undergraduate/graduate Special Education class at Kansas State University. The faculty instructor is requiring all students in the class to purchase a special reduced price book packet of all our books. Students will then have follow up class assignments using our books. This is our second presentation at Kansas State University.
December 12, 2015: The Topeka Shawnee County Public Library has chosen to feature two of our books during Story Time with Kyler at 10:00 am. Vera will be reading two of our books as part of the event. Mary, Vera and Jo will be there to sign books and to sell them after story time. Then in the afternoon from 1:00-4:00 pm we will have a vendor table at the 'Great Writers, Right Here' author fair in the library.
